Buccal Fat Removal Can Enhance Your Cheek Contours

If you are unhappy with the appearance of full, round cheeks, we can perform buccal fat removal to improve facial contours. Also known as Bichat surgery, this treatment enables us to reduce the soft, cheeky appearance caused by fatty tissue to highlight the cheeks. Tailored to your unique facial contours, buccal fat removal can help you achieve a more chiseled, defined facial appearance and greater facial symmetry. At our modern Tijuana, Mexico, facility, Dr. Rodolfo Castillo Calderón is dedicated to patient care and comfort, and can guide you through each step of treatment to ensure you feel confident in our services.

Buccal Fat Removal Benefits

The fat pads that extend below the cheeks towards the jawline can appear fuller in some individuals, giving them a puffy appearance. Patients with more prominent fat pads in their mid-facial region, or “chubby cheeks,” may benefit from a buccal fat removal procedure. This treatment can:

  • Improve the contours of the cheeks
  • Create a more sculpted and defined mid-facial appearance
  • Balance overall facial features
  • Provide a more mature look
  • Boost self-esteem

In addition, this treatment boasts no visible scarring and very little downtime, so you can quickly achieve your desired look.

The Procedure

To ensure your comfort, we can administer a local anesthetic before treatment. We also offer oral sedation, intravenous (IV sedation, and general anesthesia. Dr. Castillo works closely with a registered anesthesiologist, who can determine the best method of sedation for your comfort and safety.

Buccal fat removal has no visible scarring and very little downtime, so you can quickly achieve your desired look.

Once you are ready, we can make a small incision on the inside of the cheek, through which we can remove unwanted fat. This area of fat has minimal connection to adjacent anatomical structures, making it simple to remove. We can then close the incision with sutures. These are absorbable, so you will not have to return to our center to have them removed. Typically, the procedure takes no more than 30 minutes.

Recovering from Bichat Surgery

Within a day or two of surgery, you should be able to return to your daily activities. It is common to experience some swelling in the treatment area during the first week. However, by the second week, you should notice a significant reduction in inflammation, with full results visible in one month. At that time, you can enjoy the full benefits of your procedure. Dr. Castillo maintains an ongoing relationship with his patients, monitoring their progress for 12 to 18 months after the initial procedure to optimize recovery and results.

Combining Buccal Fat Removal with Other Facial Procedures

While Bichat surgery can produce dramatic results by itself, it can also be combined with other facial surgery procedures to achieve a more pleasing facial aesthetic. We can perform treatment in conjunction with:

  • Rhinoplasty - We can reshape and contour the nose for a more flattering appearance.
  • Chin reshaping - We can add definition to the chin for a stronger jawline.
  • Cheek augmentation - We can use your body’s own fat to enhance the curvature of the cheeks.

Dr. Castillo can review your unique cosmetic goals to determine the best form of treatment for your needs.
