Dr. Castillo will perform this outpatient procedure at a local hospital, where he works with a registered anesthesiologist. Anesthesia in blepharoplasty is different for each patient, and the exact steps of the procedure vary, depending on whether the doctor is treating your upper or lower eyelids, or both, even in combination with other procedures like facelift and rhinoplasty.

In the upper eyelid, Dr. Castillo will create a tiny incision hidden in the crease of your eyelid. Because of the careful placement, scarring will be virtually undetectable. Through this incision, he will tighten and remove excess skin, and sometimes eliminate pockets of fat. If necessary, the doctor may also tighten the upper eyelid muscle. Recovery and the Effects of Blepharoplasty

Eyelid surgery does not require a hospital stay, and the recovery time is minimal. You will experience mild swelling and bruising, which can be treated with cold compresses and mild oral medication. You should also sleep with your head elevated for two to three days following surgery. Your vision could be slightly blurry, and Dr. Castillo may prescribe eye drops to relive any minor dryness. Though a follow up appointment is ideal, the doctor uses dissolvable sutures to close the incisions, so a return visit is not necessarily required.
